Despite failing to secure a nomination for an Oscar for best foreign language film, the cast and crew of the Bollywood blockbuster “Rang De Basanti” (Color It Yellow) has now got every reason to celebrate. The movie is now viewing for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards, renowned as the British Oscars.
Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s “Rang De Basanti” was shortlisted for BAFTA awards under the “Film Not In The English Language” category, where it will be competing against Mel Gibson’s “Apocalypto,” along with Pedro Almodovar’s “Volver,” “Black Book” (Zwartboek), and the Mexican movie “Pan’s Labyrinth.”
Early next month, Mehra and the rest of the cast and crew of “Rang De Basanti” will head for the BAFTA awards ceremony, which will be held on Feb. 11, at the Royal Opera House in London.
“Rang De Basanti”, starring Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan in the lead with new generation actors Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor, Siddharth, Soha Ali Khan and Alice Patten, depicts the awakening of a whole new generation, inspired by the legendary freedom fighters of India.
